  • Gordon Sondland Gordon is a founding member of Aspen Capital and the partner primarily responsible for our hotel affiliates, Provenance Hotels and Aspen Hotel Group. As Aspen's hospitality guru, Gordon brings almost three decades of experience in the real estate business to the table. Working both independently and in partnership with Westin, Sheraton, Radisson, West Coast and Kimpton Groups, Gordon has financed, developed, acquired and operated hotels nationwide. In addition to his successful hospitality career, Gordon has negotiated and managed myriad real estate investment and development transactions across the western U.S.

  • Steve Rosenberg Steve founded Aspen Capital in 1987. His experience runs the gamut from residential to resort development, debt to equity, boom times to bust. Steve spent his formative years working for Landsing Property Corp., Smith-Ritchie Corp. and The Rawhide Co as a licensed real estate and mortgage broker. He heads up the Residential Lending group Gregory Funding* and FC Help. A graduate of Colorado College and the University of Wisconsin Graduate School in Real Estate, Steve has been underwriting, negotiating and structuring real estate loans and development financing since 1975. He is a dedicated philanthropist and has served on numerous boards including Chamber Music Northwest and the State Department of Environmental Quality Task Force. He also served as president of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Federation of Portland.

  • Ulysses Sherman Ulysses is a principal of Aspen Capital primarily active in originating, structuring and managing commercial loans and investments through Aspen Capital Funding. Ulysses has managed several closely held, discretionary investment funds while also serving as president of a small portfolio management company specializing in alternative investments. Before joining Aspen Capital, Ulysses worked as a water resources engineer, focusing on municipal water planning for the City of Boulder, Colorado and hydrologic studies of mines in Central America. Ulysses served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Côte d'Ivoire after obtaining degrees in Physics (B.A., Williams College) and Civil Engineering (M.S., University of Colorado).

  • Larry Mendelsohn An Aspen Capital partner since 1995, Larry brings a wealth of experience from his years on Wall Street. He serves as the principal and managing member of Flanders Street Capital Management LLC, an asset and credit driven high yield corporate debt partnership, Alleycat Partnerships, an investor in distressed corporate debt and equity and manages bulk loan and property acquisitions. Larry has served as President and Director of Wilshire Financial Services Group and Fog Cutter Capital Group, Head of Emerging Market Capital Markets at Bankers Trust New York and Head of Equity and Distressed Securities Proprietary Trading at J.P. Morgan Securities. He holds degrees in Economics (A.B., University of Chicago), International Politics (M.A., University of Texas) and Finance (Ph.D./ABD, University of Southern California).

  • Russell Schaub An Aspen Capital partner since 2010, Russell brings over 25 years of experience in mortgage and other consumer lending. His positions included the President and Chief Operating Officer of Citibank’s Home Equity business, the Chief Financial Officer for CitiMortgage and most recently senior positions with Chase Home Lending and Citigroup Credit Cards. In addition, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of TrueLink, a Lehman Brothers-funded venture, which developed credit monitoring and identity theft products for financial institutions and consumers. TrueLink was sold to TransUnion LLC. Russell earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago and his M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He is on the Board of Directors of Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington, NY.

  • Irving Potter Irving is General Counsel of Aspen Capital and its affiliates, and has been working with the principals since the group's inception. Irving is a founding partner at Josselson and Potter Law Offices, a firm specializing in real estate, land use, environmental, finance and general business law. A graduate of Claremont McKenna College and Willamette University College of Law, Irving has been practicing law since 1974.
